Today I want to share an new app with you guys. I love learning about new technology and app’s and I am excited to share this one with ya’ll today!
Borsch: an app that helps you get what you want to eat
Do you sometimes tell yourself, “I’m hungry but I don’t know what I want to eat?” Well, there’s an app that could help you with that now.
Borsch is an app that was recently launched by the team that created Prisma, an app that transforms pictures of food into artwork, and Artisto, which is a similar app that works on videos. With Borsch, people get to visually choose their next meal by searching through pages of pictures that are connected to a neural network. After a user clicks on a picture, they will receive information from nearby food trucks, stalls, and restaurants that serve food that looks similar to that in said picture.
Pictures of food can be added by any of the app’s users. The app’s neural network allows people to use it offline and still determine what they want to eat by pointing at pictures with the phone’s camera.
The app is the first of its kind, which begs the question: does it really work? Well, during the app’s summer launch, it seems that the neural network successfully analyzed over 10 million photos from open source food pics from social networking sites such as Instagram. Over 500,000 photos in total were successfully identified as food shots.
What’s impressive about Borsch’s app is that apart from being able to recognize a type of food, it also distinguishes whether it’s delicious or not.
“We are working on improving the quality of food image recognition,” according to a spokesperson that works with Borsch. “For example, the neural network is now learning how to differentiate dishes of sophisticated cuisine of Asia and India.
In the future, perhaps it would be awesome if the app could also capture screenshots that incorporate food in games. After all, a lot of people spend time playing games and apps, so it might be a good idea to do that, too because after all, the gaming category is the most popular among all the app categories in both Google Play and the App Store.
There are plenty of food-themed games that look so appetizing people get hungry while playing them. The game Cooking Mama, for one, is one of the most mouth-watering titles of all time, what with its delicious steak and stew recipes. On the other hand, the popular Candy Crush Saga game from King is oozing with sweetness that it makes everyone crave chocolates and candies. Some games from the Pocket Fruity website are also so tempting it’s as if the games were made to attract foodies. Check out Lobster Mania 2 and see if you can withstand the temptation of consuming a succulent lobster for dinner.
Although, right now, Borsch’s developers aren’t working on integrating the app with games just yet. Instead, they’re trying to incorporate text analysis to catch the emotions that users have after eating.
“If they post a burger and say ‘wow, that one was perfect,’ the neural network will add this info to their personal score,” the spokesperson added.
Another future goal of the app is to display real-time data for calorie counting as well as indexes for type of food.
